Ancient Armenia, Artaxiad Dynasty. King Tigranes II "The Great," 95-56 BC. Bronze two-chalcus coin. The front depicts the diademed and draped bust of Tigranes II facing right, wearing Armenian tiara / The back depicts the goddess Tyche seated right upon a rock, holding palm frond; the River-god Orontes swimming below. Greek inscription to sides: BASILEWS TIGPANOY (“Of King Tigranes”). Coin diameter 18 mm, reference: CAA 92, AC 51 for type. Encapsulated and graded Very Good by NGC. Archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375”. Coin ex old Glendale, CA private collection, acquired in the 1940's-1950's. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
