Product Description
One of the First Times Jesus Christ was depicted on a coin! Byzantine Empire. Reign of Basil II and Constantine VIII, c. 989-1035 AD. Large Class A2 bronze follis. The front depicts the bust of Christ facing, holding book of Gospels, inscription +EMMANOVHA IX-XC around / The back reads IҺSЧS/ XRISTЧS/ ЬASILЄЧ/ ЬASILЄ ("Jesus Christ King of Kings") in four lines, ornament above and below. Reference: Sear SB 1812 for type. Coin diameter 27mm, with dark olive-green patina, nice detail. Encapsulated and certified Choice Fine by NGC. The dating on the slab is unnecessarily narrow, the actual dates of issue of this coin were form 989 to 1035 AD. Archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375”. Provenance: Ex De Père, WI collection. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
