Ancient Rome, c. 1st-3rd Century AD. A rare and very large bronze handle from a monumental vessel, featuring two large hands that were once fused to the body. This was one of three handles attached to the outer surface of a large vessel called a Hydria, which was used to carry and serve water for banquets. Measures 6.5"L and intact with olive-green patina and earthen and mineral deposits. A rare and eclectic display piece! Ex Long Island, New York private collection. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
