Product Description

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, circa 750 to 1375 AD. A wonderful blackware stirrup footed jar. The upper body is adorned with several figures: primarily Naylamp, the traditional hero-founder of the Lambayeque culture, and god of the underworld. Naylamp's head and headdress are displayed beneath the conical spout while an abstract zoomorphic head projects from each of his shoulders, and two additional figures are draped around the front half. Two figures lay prone atop the handle with heads raised above the surface. H: 6.75". Ex New York City private collection. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
