Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, c. 664 - 332 BC. An Egyptian wood mummy mask, the facial portion from an anthropoid sarcophagus lid. The features attractive with deep set eyes, prominent nose and large lips; all cut from a single piece of dense, sturdy cedar. Measures 11"H x 8.5"W. Old metal ring hanger on back. A pleasing piece with remnants of original pigments and light deposits; remains of some wood dowels still present. One of the more iconic pieces one can obtain from ancient Egypt! Ex R. Curet collection, Los Angeles, purchased from Nomis Antiquities in the in the 1990's; ex-Simonian family collection, Switzerland, collected in the 1960's.Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
