Product Description

Being offered today is a VERY HIGH GRADE 1935 A HAWAII – WWII EMERGENCY ISSUE $ 1 Silver Certificate Note graded by PMG in 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated. It also has the Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ) designation!

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the island territory of Hawaii was placed under martial law. Printed for use in Hawaii after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Series of 1935A $1 Silver Certificate has black overprints of “HAWAII” running vertically at the left and right portions of the face, as well as prominently across the back.

The Hawaii Overprint Currency Note or Hawaii Wartime Notes were an emergency currency issued by the United States Treasury Department in the Territory of Hawaii starting on June 25, 1942, and continuing until the lifting of currency restrictions on October 21, 1944.

The overprints assured instant recognition which could easily allow for the devaluation of the notes in the event of enemy occupation or if the enemy captured large quantities of cash.

The color just pops off the note. The margins are centered very well, and the ink is well embossed. The colors are bright and bold. The vibrant colors and well-preserved paper add to its visual eye appeal.

The notes are encased and sealed by PMG. Every PMG certified note is backed by the industry leading PMG guarantee, which provides greater protection for both BUYERS AND SELLERS.
